I ended up in St. Petersburg by way of Texas, Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota and Georgia. It’s been a long series of moves, but thank goodness I now live in a place where I wear shorts for most of January. I purchased my home on 39th Street in early 2001, and have never lived anywhere else in the city. Having lived here, why would you wish to live anywhere else? Maximo Moorings has three attributes: The first is that it is the quintessential “1960’s Florida Neighborhood” and I like the 60’s look, so I feel right at home. The second is the location: easy access to the beaches; you can walk to the grocery store; and it’s just a short hop to the freeway if you have to head to the airport or points north. The third is that the neighbors in our community, with few exceptions, are very friendly and look out for one another.
I primarily joined the board because I felt that we as a community deserved more attention from the city and the Department of Water Resources than we were receiving in regards to the sewer plant across the Bayway from us—especially when the wind is from the south. Also, my father always taught me that no one likes a complainer; if you are going to complain about a problem, then you must also be prepared to do something about it.
We have a pretty nifty neighborhood here in Maximo Moorings. I, like all of us who live here, would like to see it stay that way. In the past, the Maximo board has been primarily concerned with two things: physical appearance of the common grounds, and ensuring that we as neighbors maintain and utilize our property in a manner that reflects well on the community as a whole. Past board attention to these aspects of our community has been a benefit to all of us who reside here. You can be sure that current and future boards will continue to be diligent in maintaining and improving the appearance of Maximo Moorings. I think the dues here in Maximo are very reasonable compared to any other place I have ever lived, and I consider what I as a resident get for my $25 a pretty good value. That dues payment enables a dedicated group of folks to look out for our best interests and ensure that Maximo is well looked after.
Being on the Civic Association board allows an opportunity for anyone in Maximo who cares about our community to become involved in those efforts to ensure it continue to be a great place to live.
